Guide
Chartr.ai is an AI-powered charting engine. Give it a prompt, a webpage, a PDF, a YouTube video, or an image - and it turns that into interactive, shareable charts.
How it works
- Prompt - provide text, paste a URL, upload a file, or combine
- AI generates charts - our AI agent uses tools at its disposal to generate chart specs
- Render the charts - the engine renders the charts
- View, edit, share - interact with charts on a board, download images, or embed them
You can use Chartr.ai through the web app, the REST API, or via MCP from AI tools like Claude and ChatGPT.
Chart types
Chartr.ai supports a range of chart types across two categories.
Process & structure
| Type | What it does |
|---|---|
| Flowchart | Visualize processes and decisions |
| Sankey Diagram | Show flows and resource distribution |
| Sequence Diagram | Map interactions between entities |
| State Diagram | Model states and transitions |
| Timeline | Show events chronologically |
| 2x2 Matrix | Compare across two dimensions |
| Mind Map | Organize ideas hierarchically |
Data & numbers
| Type | What it does |
|---|---|
| Bar Chart | Compare values side by side |
| Treemap | Show proportions as nested rectangles |
| Pie Chart | Show proportions of a whole |
| Table | Structure data in rows and columns |
The AI selects the best chart type for your input automatically, but you can always request a specific type.
Boards
A board is a collection of one or more charts generated from a single prompt. Boards can be viewed, shared via link, and embedded. Each chart on a board is interactive - click elements to reference them in follow-up messages.
Chartrs
Chartrs are custom charting presets with their own instructions and behavior. Think of them as specialized versions of the engine tuned for a specific use case - like a "competitor analysis" chartr or a "project timeline" chartr.
